So far my animation is coming along decently; here is a list
of what I’ve done so far and percentage done:
Premise, Synopsis, treatment, and Script – 100% done
My scripts has gone through a lot of changes throughout this
semester, at the beginning I have really struggle with the rules of the comic
book world, I had to think about how the main character would move around
the comic, will he be able to jump
across panel? How would I show that he was in a comic book
work? And also how would the main character utilise the ‘tools’ in the comic
book. The ending of the story was also a major problem of mine. It has gone
through at least 3 or 4 changes. At
first the he would punch the sky and make his way out, but this wasn’t use
because this would require too much animation and too much time, the second
ending had him jumping on thought bubbles to reach the portal that he came out
from, but I didn’t think that ended well, the third ending had him throwing the
word ‘BAM’ that he created throwing it into a sky, which causes a rip that suck
everything in, this also ending felt too cheap and unsatisfying. After a few
discussions with one of my lecturer he came up with the final ending, and in my
final ending it was simular to the third on how he uses the word ‘BAM’ to
create a rip, but the rip doesn’t sucks everything in this time, instead the
main character starts to thinks about himself, which creates a thought bubble
with him inside of it, the thought bubble floats up into the rip allowing him
to escape.
Thumbnails- 100% done
My thumbnails had a few problems at first I didn’t have
enough shots, but after discussing with my lecturers, I was able to fix it and
finish it in my second and final draft, overall it was a smooth experience.
Storyboard - 85% done
My storyboards had a decent amount of problems so far, my
first problem was learning to draw my characters in different position and I
need more time to practice and draw it. The second problem I had was learning
to draw the background, and also trying to figure out composition.
Model sheet – 95% done
The only problem I had so far with my model sheets is that
when I draw, I will get a sore neck and back, and this delays me, because I
have to go rest my neck and back, but luckily I’ve done this in a digital
medium, which allows me to efficiently fix my artworks. I am also learning to
digital paint my characters, which also takes time to do. I also have to
consider the restriction of the 3d program I will be using and make sure I can
model and sculpt them.
Layout- 50% done.
My layout had some simular problems to my model sheet.
Mood Board – 0%done
………… no comment.
Task Pipeline- 100 % done
No problems making a pipeline.
Animatic – 10% done
So far I have all my shots in psd format, I just need to put
it in after effects and edit it, and also I got 20% of my sound.
Video Block – 40%
So far I’ve only filmed the parts I could act out, the
problem is finding the right video reference for the shots I can’t film, also
another problem is that my story has changed a lot, so I have re shot my shots
and so on.
General Problems.
So far one of my major problems is poor time management
skills. It hard trying to find the balance between
working, resting and having fun. Another problem of mine is the lack of passion
for my animation, enough though I enjoy doing animation, I much prefer
practicing drawing and trying to get up
to a decent standard.
